Our performance courses.

Welcome to Microphone Technique Master class, the ONLY in-depth master class on performing with a microphone!  This class is for anyone who sets foot on a stage and sings into a microphone.  In today’s day and age of visual fixations and short attention spans, it’s more important than ever to support your vocal talent with a compelling performance if you wish to make an impact and be memorable.  This class is designed to empower you to command the stage and own your performances. And it all starts here - in front of the microphone.

In this performance workshop you will:

  • Discover the techniques that transform a microphone from a voice amplification tool to a performance amplification tool

  • Performance with confidence, and discover and intensify your own stage persona

  • Understand all the nitty gritty, technical aspects of performing with a mic, such as how to adjust the mic stand to your height quickly, troubleshoot on the spot for sound issues, and how to do a mic check

  • Transform your inner rockstar to outer rockstar in selection of performance attire

  • Learn which type of mic stands, mic clips, and performance microphones will work best for your performance style

  • Discover the visual impact of mic holds, find your own signature mic hold, and get comfortable with making your other hand and body part of the performance

  • Create unforgettable performances with the endless holds, angles, and actions the mic stand has to offer you.

  • Learn names to associate with your holds, angles, and actions, to help you call your new toolbox to mind

By the end of class your head will be spinning with the possibilities and you’ll be armed with an arsenal of ways to get creative, dynamic, and engaging on stage.

All the way through the class, you will be given worksheets, activities, and practice performance challenges to seal in your new vocabulary and your new movements.  You are strongly encouraged to film your practice performances assigned during the class, so that you can self-evaluate, see what looks awkward, and what looks awesome.  And while I also encourage you to use a real mic and mic stand for this class, you don’t need a microphone or mic stand to benefit from the class.  A variety of household items will work for your stand-in mic - hello lint roller! (PS you can buy a cheap mic and stand for about $40, info in the appendix of the included workbook)

Whether you’re brand new to the world of singing on stage, or a seasoned pro, there is something for you in this class.

Performance Techniques for Singer/Strummers

A spin-off of Microphone Technique Master Class, this workshop is designed specifically for performers who sing and play guitar at the same time.  You will learn thirteen common means of performance expression specific to "Singer/Strummers" to utilize in your performances to make them more engaging and memorable.  These physical techniques are subtle cues that express confidence and command of the stage.  We address what to do during those long, potentially awkward interludes in the song, the debate on keeping your eyes open or shut, how you can subconsciously make the audience want to tap along to your song, and many more performance techniques.  A PDF workbook to follow along with is provided.  Please note: To get the most out of this course, it's highly recommended to have a mic stand to practice with (they're cheap!), but not necessary. 30 minutes.
